Over a year ago, I was invited to a party as part of my day job. I work on the finance side of homelessness, helping to procure temporary accommodation for homeless people. One of the companies that was supplying us with properties decided to hold a small party for us in one of the houses, to celebrate the first house they provided for us.

When the supplier company gave us a guided tour of the house, they made us wear blue plastic shoes covers to go upstairs. I was immediately reminded of a crime scene, although I think it was more to keep the place clean.
The party was very nice, with a never-ending supply of posh canapes and champagne.
On the train journey home, I started thinking, and by the time I arrived home, I had a great idea for a new book, which involved a party in an empty house, and finding a body in the bath the next day.

Fast forward a few months, and I couldn't get the idea out of my head (there must have been something in the champagne!). So, I wrote A Killing Agreement. And, although the plot developed a lot while I was writing it, that first chapter was very much inspired by the party and the plastic shoe covers.
Needless to say, the company I was dealing with in real life were extremely professional and none of their staff would ever dream of murdering anyone.
A Killing Agreement is book 1 in my new Hampshire Crime series, featuring DI Charlotte (Charlie) Steele. It's perfect for fans of Angela Marsons, LJ Ross, Simon McLeave, and Rachel McLean. It will be published on 27th May, but you can pre-order the eBook on Amazon now at a discounted price.
